Sydney Quilt Show 2008
Category Information 
 

Entry forms containing a full listing of awards, categories and conditions of entry will be posted out to all current financial members of the Guild at the end of January 2008.  In the meantime, here is a list of categories to assist in planning your entry.  (Download 50KB pdf version)

AMATEUR 
    1.   Traditional 
    Includes whole cloth, crazy, partial appliqué, hand and/or machine pieced and quilted.
    Minimum size 120 x 120cm. Maximum size 290 x 290cm. 

    2.  Predominantly Appliqué
    Hand and/or machine pieced and quilted.  More than 75% must be appliquéd. 
    Minimum size 140 x 140cm. Maximum size 290 x 290cm. 

    3.  Mixed Techniques - Anything Goes
    Includes embroidery, crazy quilting, embellishment, painting & trapunto
    Maximum size 290 x 290cm. 

    4.   SMALL or WALL QUILT 
    Minimum size 50 x 50cm. Maximum size 150 x 150cm. 

    5. Commercially Machine Quilted Quilt
    The amateur entrant’s top, commercially machine quilted by another.
     Maximum size 290 x 290cm. 

    6. First Time Entrant Award
    First entry into The Quilters’ Guild of NSW Inc. Members Show.
    Maximum size 290cm x 290cm 

PROFESSIONAL* 
    7. Traditional
    Includes Whole cloth, Crazy, partial appliqué, hand and/or machine pieced and quilted.
    Minimum size 120 x 120cm. Maximum size 290 x 290cm.

    The professional entrant’s top, commercially machine quilted by another.
    Maximum size 290 x 290cm. 

OPEN 
    12. Miniature
    May be either scaled down patterns or your own original design, including postcards
    Maximum perimeter 200cm. 

    13. Art Quilt
    To be of an original design with no similarity to the works of another artist.
    Maximum size 290cm any one side. 

    14. Pictorial Quilt
    To be of an original design and a representation of a person, place or thing with no similarity to the
    works of another artist.
    Maximum size 290cm any one side. 

    15. Group/Collaborative Quilt
    To be made by 3 or more people. Maximum size 290 x 290cm. 

    16. Machine Embroidered Quilt
    Embroidered quilt made using computer embroidery design software or designs created for 
    computerised embroidery systems including original, digitised design cards or discs.
    At least 25% of the surface must be embroidered. 
    Minimum size 150cm x 150cm. Maximum size 290 x 290cm. 

SPECIAL CATEGORIES 
    17. Junior Member A (up to 12 years old)
     Maximum size 290 x 290cm. Free Entry. 

    18. Junior Member B (13 to 18 years old)
    Maximum size 290 x 290cm. Free Entry. 

    19. Beginner Quiltmaker
    First quilt, completed since January 2007.
    Maximum size 290 x 290cm 

*A professional quilter is defined as some who teaches or publishes in the field of quilting; sells, designs or participates in making quilts for financial gain; and/or has won Best of Show or two blue ribbons in any major judged competition, excluding Viewers’ Choice.  Having exhibited as a professional, amateur status cannot be resumed. 

“Financial gain” is defined as any amount above the cost of: creating the quilt; creating any article, design, or teaching aids including samples and notes; and traveling expenses. 

A major show is a State or Territory guild judged exhibition or competition, a national or international competition or exhibition.
